"Ruffian" with Jacinto Vasquez on board. A part of the Famous Fillies collection.

Ruffian (1972-1975), nearly jet black in color and massive, was the equine version of a Greek goddess. Her dominant performances earned her the title of American Champion filly at both the age of two and three. Tragically, Ruffian broke down in a match race with Kentucky Derby winner Foolish Pleasure, ending an undefeated 10 career starts. Her jockey was Jacinto Vasquez and trainer Frank Whiteley Jr.

Ruffian (1972-1975), Nearly jet black in color and massive in size, Ruffian was the equine version of a Greek goddess. Her dominating performances throughout 1974 and 1975 earned her the title of American Champion Filly at both the age of two and three. Ruffian’s spectacular undefeated career ended when she tragically broke down in a match race against Kentucky Derby winner Foolish Pleasure.

Zenyatta (April 1, 2004 – )  an American Hall of Fame Champion Thoroughbred racehorse who won 19 of her 20 starts. She is a dark bay mare bred in Kentucky known for her "dancing" for the fans before races.

Zenyatta (2004-)

"Zenyatta" with Mike Smith on board. A part of the Famous Fillies collection.

An enormous 17 hand dark bay mare bred in Kentucky, Zenyatta was beloved for her signature “dance” before races and her fondness for Guinness stout. In 2009, she made history as the first female ever to win the Breeders’ Cup Classic. With a spectacular racing career accounting for 19 wins in 20 starts, she earned multiple Eclipse Awards and was crowned Horse of the Year in 2010.trained by John Shirreffs and ridden by Mike Smith, she became one of the most popular and celebrated Thoroughbreds of this century.

"Winning Colors" 1988 Kentucky Derby winner with Gary Stevens on board. A part of the Famous Fillies collection.

Winning Colors (March 14, 1985 – February 17, 2008) was an American Hall of FameChampion Thoroughbred racehorse and one of only three fillies to ever win the Kentucky Derby. Though she was registered as roan, she was, in fact, a gray with a white blaze on her face.

WINNING COLORS (1985–2008)

Registered as roan but actually a striking gray with a bold white blaze, Winning Colors etched her name in racing history in 1988 by defeating the colts in a front-running victory in the Kentucky Derby — becoming one of only three fillies ever to capture the Run for the Roses. Trained by D. Wayne Lukas and ridden by Gary Stevens, she went on to be named Champion Three-Year-Old Filly, securing her place among the legends of Thoroughbred racing.

Rachel Alexandra (January 29, 12006 –) An American Hall of Fame Champion Thoroughbred racehorse who in 2009 won the Kentucky Oaks and the first filly is win the Preakness in 85 years!

RACHEL ALEXANDRA (2006– )

A radiant chestnut filly distinguished by her bold white blaze, Rachel Alexandra captured the imagination of the racing world during her legendary career. In her three-year-old campaign, she dominated the Kentucky Oaks with a 20¼-length victory and then stunned the sport by defeating Kentucky Derby winner Mine That Bird in the Preakness, becoming the first filly in 85 years to achieve that feat. Trained by Steve Asmussen and ridden by Calvin Borel, she earned Horse of the Year honors in 2009, securing her place among the greatest Thoroughbreds of all time.

Thorpedo Anna (2021-), a dark bay filly bred in Kentucky and named after a local Louisville swimmer, was crowned Horse of the Year in 2024. She captured national attention with her victory in the Kentucky Oaks, showcasing her speed and determination. Her trainer, Kenny McPeek, and jockey, Brian Hernandez Jr., achieved a rare and remarkable feat in 2024 by winning both the Kentucky Oaks with Thorpedo Anna and the Kentucky Derby with Mystik Dan.

THORPEDO ANNA (2021– )

A dark bay filly bred in Kentucky and named after a local Louisville swimmer, Thorpedo Anna captured national attention with her determined victory in the 2024 Kentucky Oaks. That same year, trainer Kenny McPeek and jockey Brian Hernandez Jr. achieved the rare feat of winning both the Oaks with Thorpedo Anna and the Kentucky Derby with Mystik Dan. Compiling six wins and a narrow runner-up in seven starts, Thorpedo Anna was crowned Horse of the Year in 2024. Still racing to date as of 2025, she remains one of the sport’s brightest rising stars.

Trained by D. Wayne Lukas throughout her career and ridden primarily by jockey Pat Day in her 1986 Horse of the Year championship season, Lady’s Secret remains one of the most accomplished fillies in racing history.
